What are the different types of kitchen taps available?

Kitchen taps come in a range of shapes and sizes, with a variety of functionalities available. Such as:

Mixer taps combine hot and cold water into one ideal temperature stream.

Pull-out mixer taps provide a retractable, flexible hose, which makes it easier to clean your sink or fill oversize objects that are too large or tall for it.

Filtered mixer taps (also sometimes called 3-in-1 taps) provide a stream of filtered water straight out of the tap, eliminating the need to use a separate filter jug

Boiling water taps (can be either 3-in-1 taps, or 4-in-1 when combined with a filter function) provide instant hot water, reducing the need to spend time waiting for water to boil on the hob or via a kettle.

What is a deck-mounted tap?

Taps are typically either “deck-mounted” which means they are installed through and sit on the kitchen worktop and/or sink; or wall-mounted. Wall-mounted taps are often larger but hinged so that they can fold away flush with a wall. Wall-mounted taps are also often located immediately over a hob so that you can pull the tap out and fill a pan with water without the need to carry it to a separate sink.

How do mixer taps work?

Mixer taps combine both hot and cold water together in the spout to deliver a single stream of water perfectly mixed to the temperature you desire. As there is only one tap spout, mixer units are typically favoured for their simple, space saving elegance. Some mixer taps also only require one aperture within the sink surround and/or worktop.

This is different, and arguably superior to having two separate pillar taps which require two apertures to be cut into the sink surround and/or worktop.

What is a pull out tap?

A pull-out tap is a kitchen tap with a pull-out house, providing you the flexibility to aim your water flow where you need it. They can be especially useful for cleaning hard-to-reach places, with other benefits such as:

Ability to change the spray configuration for a narrow powerful jet or wider spray

Increased flexibility, enabling you to reach the corners of your sink, or even direct water into pans on your worktop (depending on reach).

With that increased precision you can use less water, saving on bills and reducing environmental impacts.
