Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a blender and a food processor?

Food processors typically have S-shaped, flat blades which chop, puree, slice, dice, shred or potentially even spiralise food. In contrast, blenders typically have blades which are angled with part of the blade in a more upwardly facing orientation. This helps to create a whirling motion which encourages food to rise and fall within the jug, reducing the likelihood of food sitting underneath the chopping blades. Blenders often have more blades or “prongs” - typically ranging from 3-5.

Food processors are best for tasks where you need to retain more shape and texture of the produce, whereas blenders are better for smoothies, or smooth soups

What is blender used for?

While many use blenders solely for making smoothies, a blender can be used for a wide variety of kitchen tasks. Such as:

  • Drinks: Smoothies, milkshakes, protein shakes and juices
  • Sauces and dips: Salsa, hummus, marinara, and other dips and sauces.
  • Other foods: Soups, nut butters, and ice creams are also commonly made with blenders.
  • Bread crumbs: You can also use a blender to blend bread crumbs for toppings.
What is the capacity of the BLF03 Jug Blender?

The BLF03 pitcher has a maximum capacity of 1.5 litres. In addition, our BLF03 jug blender supports our "Bottle to Go" bottles which have a capacity of 800ml.

Can the BLF03 Jug Blender be used for crushing ice?

Yes, the BLF03 features a dedicated Ice Crush function. The blender operates with short bursts of power to crush the ice until it becomes slush. This makes it great for iced drinks, smoothies, or frozen cocktails.

Is the BLF03 Jug Blender noisy?

While all blenders make some noise, especially at higher speeds, the BLF03’s motor and sturdy construction help minimise excessive vibration and sound, making it a quieter choice for everyday blending.

How do you make juice with a blender?

Making juice with a blender couldn’t be simpler.

  1. Prepare your fruit and vegetables: Remove seeds, skins, and tough stems, and chop the produce into manageable-sized pieces.
  2. Add the ingredients to your blender, with liquids like water, to aid in the blending process.
  3. Secure the lid of your blender, and ensure the bottle/ pitcher is locked into place.
  4. Turn the blender on a low setting, before increasing the speed to high. Blend until the ingredients are completely blended.
  5. If you desire a smooth juice, strain the pulp through a mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
Are there different types of blenders?

Yes. The main features that differentiate blenders from one another are the purpose, size, motor speed, control, and design. Let’s have a look at the different kinds of blenders available, so you can choose the one that’s right for you.

  • Personal blenders are typically single-function blenders that perfectly combine ingredients into smoothies or milkshakes, straight into the bottle! Convenient blending for making a smoothie on the go.
  • Jug blenders are more powerful blenders with a larger capacity capability. They also offer additional functionality such as crushing ice and an auto-cleaning feature. With the Smeg Jug Blender, you can also purchase a Smeg ‘Bottle To Go’,
  • High-performance blenders are the most powerful form of blender and make light work of making anything from smoothies to crushing ice. While less powerful blenders may struggle with denser textures and thicker liquids, a high-performance blender can blend a variety of ingredients such as nut butters, flours, vegetables and fruit. High-performance blenders are easy to recognise, with pitchers made of strong and durable plastic instead of glass. This is due to the high amounts of pressure that the high-performance blenders put out.
  • Hand blenders are most typically used for blending sauces or liquids for cooking. As they are portable and manoeuvrable, they offer great versatility for cooking, baking, or smoothie making, giving you more control over the blending process. They may not be as strong as a jug blender or high-performance blender due to their smaller size, which typically houses a smaller motor.
How long is the warranty on a Smeg Blender?

All of our Smeg blenders come with our standard 2-year warranty. This covers any manufacturing defects or issues you may encounter under normal use.

Is the BLF03 Jug Blender easy to clean?

The BLF03 comes with an auto-clean function, this modes uses short bursts of power at high speed to rinse the jug or bottle accessory quickly and efficiently. The jug pitcher and lid are also dishwasher safe. The blade assembly should be carefully removed and washed by hand.

Can Smeg's Tritan Renew bottle be used with the BLF03 Jug Blender?

Yes. Our "Bottle to Go" bottles include a dedicated blade unit which can attach to the BLF03 jug blender.
