What is an integrated fridge / freezer / fridge-freezer?

An integrated (also known as “built-in”) appliance is an appliance that is designed to be installed within your kitchen cabinetry.

Unlike freestanding models, integrated appliances are concealed behind kitchen cabinet doors, blending in with the rest of the kitchen to offer a seamless, streamlined look.

What is an integrated larder fridge?

A larder fridge is a refrigerator that does not include an ice-box portion, thus providing maximum refrigeration space within the unit. As above, the integrated aspect refers to the fact that the larder fridge is designed to be installed within your existing kitchen cabinetry, thus concealing the appliance from view, providing a sleek, uninterrupted cohesive kitchen design.

How do you install an integrated appliance?

Installing a built-in appliance requires careful planning, to ensure it fits seamlessly into your kitchen cabinetry. You will need to:

Measure the width, height, and depth of the space you have, to ensure you can fit in your new fridge, freezer or fridge freezer.
Ensure that you have space for proper ventilation; at the back where the compressor is located.
Ensure you have easy access to the plug socket, or ideally, an isolator witch prior to proceeding. If you do not, we would recommend asking a local electrician to install an isolator switch for safety purposes.
Place a sheet on the floor to protect it from scratches whilst you manoeuvre the appliance close to the installation location (ensure all packaging is removed).
Ensure that the power to the socket is off and insert the plug.
Slide the appliance into the cabinet, ensuring that it is level and the recommended ventilation is available.
Secure the appliance with brackets to the kitchen frame, to ensure it doesn’t move.
Attach the cabinet door to the appliance, using either a fixed hinge or a sliding hinge as per the specific instructions for your model.
Leave it to settle for at least 3 hours,
Turn on the power, and allow it to come to temperature prior to inserting any food.

Are integrated fridges / freezers / fridge-freezers a standard size?

Generally, due to the fact integrated appliances need to fit within kitchen cabinetry which often has set dimensions you will find most built-in fridges, freezers or fridge freezers will be designed to fit within a cavity of 60cm wide by 60cm deep.

Whilst you can buy models with less common dimensions, it is normally the height which varies for standard appliances. Height can range from 82cm to 177cm.
