A dual fuel range cooker is a freestanding cooker that has a hob powered by one fuel type (e.g. electric) and an oven which is powered by a different fuel type (e.g. gas).
All of Smeg’s dual fuel appliances include an electric oven and a gas hob. This provides the benefits of the instant heat via gas burners, with the uniform cooking capabilities of an electric oven.
Some of our larger dual fuel range cookers also include a teppanyaki and multi-zone induction hob.
Yes, you will likely need a fully qualified electrician and a qualified gas engineer to install a dual fuel cooker in your home. It is illegal to disconnect your old gas cooker or connect a new one without a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Smeg can arrange both a disconnection and connection service for you: To install your new dual fuel range cooker and disconnect and dispose of your existing cooker.
For instructions on how to install your Smeg cooker, you can see instructions for your specific range cooker model here.
Dual fuel range cookers combine the strengths of both electric and gas components, providing you with greater control and flexibility in your cooking. They are generally more expensive, however, than a pure gas or electric cooker.
Duel fuel cookers offer a range of advantages over traditional cookers.
The main limitation of a dual fuel range cooker, is the need for two fuel sources, gas and electricity. If your kitchen only has one available source, then you will need to pay to have the other fuel source installed, which can increase costs. However this is a one-time cost, so can be factored into the purchasing price of your new dual fuel cooker.
In our opinion, yes, dual fuel range cookers are an excellent investment to add value and flexibility to your kitchen. They offer the best of both worlds, with the precise control of a gas burner, with the even heating and reliability of an electric oven.
If you’re serious about your cooking, a dual fuel range cooker is the top-of-the-line and the best you can get for your kitchen.
